Job Description POSITION POSTED UNTIL A VIABLE POOL OF CANDIDATES HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, technology or closely related field with a minimum of 6 years of related experience utilized in a transit system environment highly desirable. Must have demonstrated experience and application of various types of test equipment associated with the service/maintenance and repair of telephone systems (CISCO voice applications, Call Manager, Unity and Harmony Voice Recorder); public address systems (IP7-PA Announcement and Signpost); SONET systems, fiber optic networks, and large telephone switch technologies utilized in the telecommunication industry. Must possess good oral and written communication and analytical skills. In lieu of a degree, directly related experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

SUMMARY Supervises telephony operations staff of technicians responsible for the maintenance of the Authority's telecommunication systems, networks and devices. Assigns work to technicians related to the inspection, maintenance, reliability and repair of critical life safety telecommunications equipment. Ensures that voice/data systems, devices and components are properly maintained in accordance with applicable codes, regulations and compliance standards. Monitors and maintains performance of telecommunication equipment and systems to identify and mitigate risks and/or prevent system down times. Conducts inspections of assigned work activities. Works in conjunction with Technology Infrastructure and Production unit in the maintenance and repair of Cisco Voice Gateways and SONET infrastructure. Provides support and assists technicians in troubleshooting and resolving more complex installations and maintenance challenges. Executes the requirements of the organization's collective bargaining agreement. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Supervises journeyman telephone maintenance technicians and provides direct oversight of preventive and predictive maintenance required to maintain safe and reliable life-safety and operations equipment of the Authority. Responsible for conducting weekly meetings to plan and assigns work to technicians.
2. Provides written reports on important issues that affect the operations and performance of telephone shops which includes: wayside, parking deck call boxes, police and customer service phones. Investigates problems that may impact delays to revenue service and implements corrective action.
3. Implements and promotes safety, quality, and training programs for the telephone maintenance unit. Facilitates monthly safety and training meetings.
4. Develops and implements plans and programs to improve the quality of telecommunication services activities.
5. Supervises and coordinates installation of all structured cabling systems including inside/outside plant such as 3/5/5e/6 cabling and fiber optics in accordance to MARTA standards and guidelines.
6. Works closely with supervisors in business support units including Computer Maintenance, Radio Maintenance, Police and Technology Infrastructure and Production in the identification and resolution of technology issues.
7. Develops and monitors journeyman performance. Makes hiring and termination recommendations.
8. Assists in the development and control of the operating and/or capital budgets.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
