Job Duties As a proofreader, you will be responsible for identifying grammatical, typographical, and compositional errors in legislative drafts. You will correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and content errors quickly and accurately while maintaining consistency with the Code of Virginia's style and established guidelines. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications •Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
•Strong understanding of the difference between editing and rewriting.
•Ability to learn the specifics of legislative editing.
•Customer service-oriented with excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
•Positive and enthusiastic attitude.
•Ability to work diligently, both independently and collaboratively.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to learn from constructive feedback and continuously seek improvement.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
•Technically savvy.
Additional Considerations •A degree in English, Linguistics, Journalism, Writing, Communications, Arts, or a related field.
•Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience, including freelance work.
•Demonstrated success in working in a deadline-driven environment.

This is a continuous recruitment position for the Division of Legislative Services to build an applicant pool.
Those selected will be expected to be available to begin work in October 2024 and continue through February 2025 .
This is a contract position with a defined start and end date and does not include health or retirement benefits. This is a remote position, allowing flexibility to work from home and in the office .
