TITLE: Reading Specialist


QUALIFICATIONS: An appropriate, valid, Illinois State Teaching Credential with a Reading endorsement.


JOB SUMMARY: The Reading Teacher is responsible for providing high-level literacy learning experiences to struggling readers and teaches the course of study prescribed by the District.


REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, and other Central Office Administrators


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary based on Chicago Heights School District 170 and American Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 604, Chicago Heights Council contractual agreement.


PENSION SYSTEM: TRS


RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. The Reading Teacher will implement scientific-based reading research strategies to enable students to develop the competence and skills to be successful readers.


2. Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.


3. Establishes and maintains standards of student control required to achieve effective participation in all activities.


4. Evaluates academic growth of students and maintains appropriate records.


5. Communicates with parents through a variety of means.


6. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning problems.


7. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal.
