Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement, the Prospect Management & Research Officer supports the division’s fundraising efforts by collaborating with development officers to support donor portfolio optimization and management.

Job Summary:

  • Collaborates with development officers to update and maintain donor portfolios with the most appropriate prospects based on research and identification techniques.
  • Works closely with development officers to prioritize existing major gift prospects already in their portfolios.
  • Identifies new prospects with documented capacity to make significant gift(s) to Winthrop and maintains a prioritized list of top prospects that are not currently assigned within a portfolio.
  • Provides research information on prospects and assists the fundraising team with the development of qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
  • Conducts individual meetings with development officers to review key reporting metrics, assist with portfolio management and plan for future donor visits.
  • Oversees and maintains the prospect pipeline by identifying new prospects and ensuring that their status and classification are current in Raiser’s Edge; provides regular reports to the fundraising team; and ensures existing proposals in Raiser’s Edge are up to date and accurately reflect the potential gift pipeline.
  • Prepares biographical documents on donors, potential donors and guests for University Advancement and other university staff.
  • Develops the agenda and serves as facilitator during regular prospect management meetings.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of relevant experience, including demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge or a similar CRM database, and subscription and publicly available online research resources.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary:

Good understanding of philanthropy and the role of prospect management in a higher education setting. Exceptional organizational, project management, analytical, and oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team; meet deadlines while managing multiple concurrent projects/assignments; prepare high-level reports and briefings for divisional and university use; analyze multiple data points to make informed decisions regarding portfolio assignments; collaborate effectively with division and university staff in developing cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, prospects/donors and the general public.
