This job was posted by : For more information, please see: JOB SUMMARY: As part of the PPEP Inc Migrant Education Program (MEP) team, the Migrant Advocate implements the goals and objectives outlined in the PPEP Inc Migrant Education Program Plan. The primary role of the advocate is to provide ongoing academic support, resources, and communication to migratory students and families, as well as other educational stakeholders. This position also supports the Migrant Program Coordinator to gather and keep any required documentation, works with Data Clerk for collection of data; supports the Migrant Recruiter and Parent Liaison to identify and recruit migrant children for the program and to encourage migrant parent, family, and community involvement and engagement in school activities. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES: Provide Supplemental Codes information of services to migratory children to the Migrant Data Clerk. Devise Individual Learning Plan for each migratory student to identify needs and provide appropriate services. Coordinate family literacy resources, parent and family outreach, training activities, and local and statewide Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings designed to assist parents and families to become active participants in the education of their children. Coordinate supplemental instructional and support services, and provision of materials and supplies as well as transportation. Conduct home, work, or school site visits to identify student needs and make appropriate referrals for services. Tutor students at school sites, before or after regular school hours, and during summer and for inter-sessions and document student needs before tutorial services are provided. Coordinate tutoring program e.g., contracts, student selection, tutor review. Serve as a link between home and school to solve problems affecting migratory students. Provide advocacy and information about school and community resources, make referrals to educational, health, community, and State and Federal age11cies, and assist in accessing appropriate services based on expressed needs. Provide guidance toward academic achievement by monitoring academic progress, credit accrual, student attendance, and reports of problems involving migratory students such as suspensions and withdrawals. Identify student needs via student conferences, teacher conferences, and while reviewing cumulative records and report cards. Proctor credit recovery/accrual programs with students online and in person, before or after regular school hours, and during summer and/or intersessions. Acts as a liaison between students, counselors, and teachers, communicating student concerns and needs with school staff to ensure expressed needs are met. Coordinate career exploration activities for migratory students e.g., trips, presentation, FAFSA night. Make presentations to parents, school district, and community groups regarding the Migrant Education Program and available community resources for migratory students. Periodically distribute a list of all eligible migrant students to administrators, guidance counselors and regular classroom teachers for referral purposes. Assists Senior Recruiter with completion and logistics of ID&R inside the schools as requested by Migrant Coordinator. Other duties as assigned by the Migrant Program Coordinator REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITITES: Bilingual in English and Spanish. Good communication and presentation skills in Spanish and English. Must enjoy working with a diverse population of families and community members. Proficient computer skills using word processing, internet, and email programs. Must possess a Class I FBI Fingerprint (Identity Verified Prin) and Background Clearance Card. Valid Arizona driver\'s license and clearance/approval from corporate auto insurer. Any combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Dependable transportation. EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE: Associate degree or Higher. Two or more past\' experience working with. a school or community-based migrant education program. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs.
