Touchstone Institute is a non-profit corporation governed by a board of directors and receives financial support from the Government of Ontario. Currently implementing a growth strategy, Touchstone Institute looks to expand its impact in supporting broad health human resource solutions and by strengthening effective practice of health care professionals. Nearly 40 full-time staff contribute to the success of the organization, including experts in competency design and assessment, as well as health and education program development.

Touchstone Institute works closely with physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers who provide subject matter expertise to assess and improve the level of competency across individual practice. Building on its history of working to facilitate entry to training or practice for Internationally Educated Health Professionals, Touchstone Institute seeks to continue the work in this area while expanding to support excellence in competent practice for all who deliver health care.

Position Description

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services, the Financial Analyst will be a finance business partner to support various financial accounting, reporting, analysis, and the budgeting and planning processes enabling decision-making within the organization. The Financial Analyst brings together a blend of technical expertise, strategic and analytical insight, and effective communication skills. The roles contributions will extend beyond traditional financial accounting and reporting to encompass strategic financial planning, opportunities analysis, risk mitigation, and business performance optimization.

Key Accountabilities

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Support financial planning process (annual budget, forecasts, quarterly reporting, variance analysis) to lead financial discussions with program teams to build a financial plan that serves the organizations strategy and operational plans.
  • Able to build complex financial reporting models and customize project financial reporting.
  • Monitor financial KPIs, forecasting of financial results to budget to inform variance analysis, assess financial risks, and recommendations for risk mitigation
  • Collect, compile, gather information and data that will assist in analysis as required to support opportunities and decisions
  • Applied knowledge of modern controllership principles, business planning, performance measurement and financial management practices

Accounting and Reporting

  • Perform accounting, financial and statistical reporting, and analysis.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, quarter-end and year-end accounting schedules.
  • Assist external auditors for interim and year-end related tasks.
  • Support the Director in researching accounting issues and prepare analysis of and appropriate accounting and tax treatment.
  • Preparation, analysis and reconciliation of monthly, quarterly, annual financial reports and ad hoc reports as needed for management reporting, audits, and compliance reporting to the Ministry of Health related to Touchstones funding agreements.

Business Decision Support

  • Partner with cross-functional departments to translate operational objectives and initiatives into a financial plan.
  • Leverage financial acumen and analytical capabilities to support management in making informed decisions with financial insights and implications to achieve objectives
  • Support teams in the development of project proposals, including revenue models, cost-saving opportunities, assessment of financial viability of initiatives and ongoing operations.
  • Support procurement processes to provide financial analysis of proposals, quotations, and contracts.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
  • Post-secondary degree in accounting, business administration, commerce, economics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in financial planning, analysis, accounting, or a similar role.
  • Experience in non-profit and healthcare organizations is as asset.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with databases and financial systems for financial analysis and reporting
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.

We follow a hybrid work model with two designated in-office days: Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Successful candidates must be available to work on-site during these days.

We will be recruiting for two individuals. One of the roles is an 18-month contract.
