Position Summary:

As a key member of our team, you will provide clinical expertise, education, consultation, leadership, and research in selected clinical areas. Your role will benefit patients, staff, and the organization as a whole.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, competent direct patient care in your area of expertise.
  • Coordinate and implement orientation programs for Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) nursing staff.
  • Develop and oversee continuing education programs for BHU staff.
  • Plan and implement annual BHU competencies in collaboration with Nurse Managers.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge and judgment to identify and address patient care issues.
  • Provide clinical practice interventions that enhance outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Support staff through delegation and collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Engage in teaching and coaching for staff nurses, nursing students, and patients/families.
  • Foster a spirit of inquiry and apply research findings to improve clinical practice.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to build effective teams and solutions.
  • Act as a positive role model, demonstrating the integration of theory and evidence-based practice.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut. A BSN is required; a Master’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Certifications: BLS certified and certification as an instructor in Basic Cardiac Life Support within one year of employment. Basic certification in a specialty area is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of progressive experience in clinical practice, nursing education, or nursing management in an acute care setting. Three years of Behavioral Health experience is required.
  • Competencies: Strong clinical competency, effective communication skills in English, and basic computer skills.
