Job Description
The Actuarial Intern will support product development, pricing, and product management activities for index annuities, fixed annuities, and life insurance.The Actuarial Intern will also assist with evaluating and tracking competitor products and industry trends.Essential duties will include performing analysis, producing reports, and supporting system testing efforts.In addition, the Actuarial Intern will work closely with other actuaries and analysts in one or more typical Actuarial functional areas, including risk management, modeling, and financial reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs system testing and quality control for new products, product enhancements, and system changes. Uses technical expertise and attention to detail to validate the accuracy of calculations within the illustration software, administration system, and print system.
- Conducts competitive studies; participates in industry surveys; compiles and summarizes findings. Stays current on competitor actions, such as rate changes, specials, and incentives.
- Collects and analyzes data for assigned project(s). Performs experience studies and presents findings.
- Uses problem-solving skills to research and resolve issues.
- Supports the Actuarial team and other departments on an as-needed basis.
- Willingly takes on additional responsibilities as requested in order to accomplish department and Company objectives.

- Ability to prioritize workflows, establish and meet deadlines and manage multiple concurrent tasks.

- Advanced computer skills and the ability to navigate multiple systems and programs including Microsoft Office, proprietary systems, and other technology solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required, including a high degree of professionalism.

Training or Work Experience:
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at an accredited university or college pursuing a degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or statistics required.
- Preference is given to actuarial students that have passed at least one Actuarial exam (through the Society of Actuaries).
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Working Conditions:
- On-Site Location: West Des Moines, Iowa.
- Business Travel: Travel not likely/required.
